Is Your Klaviyo Account Actually Making You Money?

I check one number before I touch anything else on a new Klaviyo account, and it’s never the bold number on the dashboard. Sure, attributed revenue is real money. It just has no denominator.

The percent of attributed revenue the number that actually tells you whether your Klaviyo account is making you money, and almost nobody tracks it seriously, because the dashboard puts the big figure in large type and leaves the other one in small type.

The Big Number on Your Dashboard is Not the Best Answer

Attributed revenue is the total Klaviyo claims credit for: every order where a flow or campaign email touched the customer somewhere on the way to checkout. It climbs every month your list grows, whether or not the emails behind it are doing anything well. A brand on autopilot and a brand running tight, deliberate flows can show the exact same dashboard number, for completely different reasons.

Divide that number by your total revenue and the picture changes. 25% – 40% is the range Klaviyo’s own 2026 benchmarks call healthy for ecommerce. Under 10%, email is an afterthought, not a channel. Over 60%, check your attribution window before you celebrate, since something is likely being claimed by more than one email.

When email underperforms, it’s almost never the channel.

Three Numbers That Actually Tell You Something

I love following the data. There’s little guessing about the next move when your analytics tells the story. It’s essentially a to-do list, and attributed revenue as a share of total revenue is the first line on it. Two more are worth checking before you decide anything else.

  1. Flow share of email and SMS revenue. Klaviyo’s own benchmark average is 41%. Flows are the automated sends, welcome, abandoned cart, post-purchase, running automatically when users take action. A low number here usually means campaigns are propping up the whole channel.
  2. Flow revenue per recipient. The all-industry average is $1.94 per person on your list, each time a flow fires. Top accounts reach $7.79. The gap between those two numbers is usually a segmentation problem, not a copywriting one.
  3. Monthly list growth. A healthy range is 2% – 5% a month. Below that, every flow fires against a shrinking pool, so even a well-built flow earns less every month than it did the month before.

The Ten Patterns an Email Account Follows

After enough of clients, I stopped seeing individual stores and started seeing about ten typically patterns.

  1. The Leaky Funnel: where traffic arrives and nothing catches it.
  2. The Campaign Treadmill: sending constantly while the flows haven’t been touched since they were built.
  3. The Set-and-Forget: which is that in reverse.
  4. The Megaphone: one message to everyone on the list.
  5. The Spam-Folder Tightrope: where the revenue looks fine and the deliverability is one bad send from a problem.
  6. The Closed Circle: talking mostly to people who already bought.
  7. The Sleeping Giant: a large list almost nobody emails.
  8. The Untapped List: its smaller cousin.
  9. The Solid Foundation: genuinely fine and could be better.
  10. And the Well-Oiled Machine: which shows up about as often as you’d expect.

Most people guess wrong about their own. Founders who send constantly assume they’re the Treadmill and turn out to be the Tightrope. Founders bracing for bad news turn out to be a Sleeping Giant, which is actually the best outcome on this list, because a large list nobody has emailed is the cheapest revenue sitting in any ecommerce business.

How to Get Your Real Number

There’s a tool for that! I created a checkup that tells you your email type based on your email stats. Value aside, I know it had to be super easy to perform, so it takes about 3-minutes in total and not only gives you your email type, but the exact next steps to do. Email marketing isn’t hard but knowing what to do first can get marketers stuck. The Email Money Honey checkup asks for the numbers already sitting on your Klaviyo dashboard, business performance, flows, campaigns, deliverability, and audience growth, and you can paste in screenshots instead of typing each one by hand.

What comes back is a score and which of the ten patterns your account matches, benchmarked against Klaviyo’s 2026 figures for your specific category rather than a generic average. You also get the dollar gap between where you sit now and where accounts like yours actually land, which is the number that turns a grade into a decision.

Run it at a desk, not on your phone between errands. It asks for real numbers, so it hands back a real answer. Once you’ve got your score, save it and run the checkup again the next month. That’s really powerful action.

A Few Quick Answers

What counts as a good flow revenue per recipient in Klaviyo?

Across industries, flows average $1.94 in revenue per recipient each time they fire. The top accounts reach $7.79. If you’re closer to the first number than the second, the fix is usually segmentation, sending the same flow to a more defined audience, rather than a redesign of the email itself.

What percentage of revenue should come from email?

Twenty-five to forty percent of total revenue is the healthy range for an ecommerce brand running Klaviyo. Below 10 percent, email is barely contributing. Above 60, check your attribution window before assuming the channel is outperforming everything else.

How do I know if my Klaviyo flows are underperforming?

Start with flow share of revenue. Klaviyo’s own 2026 benchmark puts the average at 41 percent of total email and SMS revenue coming from flows rather than campaigns. Earn less than that share and the account is likely leaning on manual campaigns to make up the difference, which is harder to sustain every month.

Is attributed revenue the same as actual revenue from email?

Not exactly. Attributed revenue is Klaviyo crediting an order to an email that touched the customer somewhere before checkout. It’s a real number, but it only means something next to your total revenue and your category’s benchmark, which is what the free Email Money Honey checkup calculates for you.
